About this deal

The cramped nature of the site places severe limits on production, which in turn means that demand for Obans richly appreciated malt is always likely to exceed supply. Filling and warming, with the comforting chewiness of rich fruit-bread and hints of orange zest and clove, before growing drier, still minty, with crisp green apple. The expressive character and the rich aromatic palette, dominated by fruit, outline a rather complex personality for a young whiskey.

These cookies help provide information on metrics the number of visitors, bounce rate, traffic source, etc. Balancing autumn fruits and sea air, Oban whisky owes its rich and rewarding Highland character to its very long fermentation process. The Oban distillery is one of Scotland's smallest distilleries with just two small lantern-shaped stills. Founded in 1794 at Argyll, the distillery was initially operated as a brewery but began distillation shortly after.Today, Oban is said to be the second smallest distillery owned by Diageo when it comes to production capacity, at 870,000 liters per year. A rich, sweet and fruity nose with notes of oranges, lemons, pears and traces of sea-salt and peat smoke. Our boxes are made of 100% recyclable cardboard and our protective honeycomb paper wrap keeps your package safe and significantly reduces our need for plastic. A little salty; a little malty; honey sweetness, big orange zest (amongst other citrus fruits); and a lovely underlying smoke that doesn’t really overplay it’s part.

This product is hand packed onsite by Bottled and Boxed, and is not affiliated with any other brand. Once I poured in a dram and settled down on my desk, I went to Malt, wondering what others have said about this whisky, and was shocked to learn that there haven’t been any pieces on Oban 14 yet! The Oban distillery sits in the town of the same name and overlooks the harbour and the sea at Scotland’s western coast. Like many of Scotland’s distilleries, ownership changed multiple times, and the distillery was modernized, too. I think it’s more to do with the fact that you’re using a warmer surface to condense the spirit, therefore the rate of condensation is lower – letting the spirit ‘hang out’ with the copper longer. Tasting Notes: Oban has a sweet peated nose with hints of burnt heather carried through to the palate with just a touch of creaminess.

It's competing with Springbank 15 (if you can find it) Glendronach and Glenallachie, Edradour, Deanston 18, Glenfarclas 15, various Benromach releases. It works well as an accompaniment to seafood like oysters or smoked salmon, giving them new depths of flavour. Fine single malt whisky has been made in Oban for over 200 years, in one of the oldest licensed distilleries in Scotland. The spirit for this whisky has been produced the same way since the distillery was founded in the small fishing town of Oban back in 1794. Oban's attractive West Highland character reflects its location, revealing aspects of both the Highland and the Island styles. I had the pleasure of going to the Oban distillery a few years ago and it offered a great tour and insight into the whisky and it’s history.
