About this deal

I feel sad at how much time I spent worrying about whether I was desirable instead of thinking about what I desired.

I'm a middle aged hetero male who has had a very limited amount of sexual experience, other than straight vanilla. I enjoyed the book and found it interesting, if a little eyebrow-raising in places, but it probably threw up as many questions for me as answers. A really good and engaging book that more people should read - especially males in Britain/US - to help people be more comfortable with themselves but also in understanding their partners (this book is so much more than a sex diary or tales of exploits) but there is a bit of padding at the end.

Instead of finding arousal, she found herself thinking about her nieces, growing into young women, and what our current society is 'feeding' to them, in regards to sex and sexuality. I love that she also makes sure she is disclaiming all her cultural biases being English and all that.

I don't hand out five stars much, but this book is such an 'important' read that I'll do it anyways. Tai ehkä Holmesin tapauksessa emme vain ole samalla viivalla ajatuksissamme, TAI suomennos hukkasi jotain. The straights follow an agenda that's defined by PornHub, Cosmo articles on pleasing your lover, and vestigial Christian guilt. I want to have slow sex, work out what to do with a penis, and experience the fourteen different types of female orgasm. Having said all of that, the book swiftly transitions, courtesy of the author at last coming across some empathetic men, to a sexual odyssey that lies far, far outside my comfort zone, and I suspect that of many others. I recommend to any woman or person looking for some self love and understanding of how to embark on that journey. She talks candidly about her sex life and there's quite a bit of detailed description, but importantly much of it is description of how sex makes the author feel, not just the acts themselves.

For years and years, I’ve lived my life as a woman who has been told about sex and shown about sex from a man’s perspective. While I loved the book as a whole and I will recommend it to anyone who asks, I struggled with the structure. But all credit to her for her revelations and honesty in a subject that still remains somewhat taboo. Its conversational tone will have you feeling like you’re chatting with a friend, rather than reading the explicit details of a stranger’s sex life. At times, the jolly tone and self-depricating humour got on my nerves (the latter is fortunately lost more and more), sometimes all the tantra praising was a bit much and I'd really prefer it if authors didn't feel like they need to equate women with vaginas and men with penisses in every other sentence. Monipuolinen matka kulkee toivelistojen, tantrakurssien, ihmissuhteiden, seksileirien ja lopulta myös raskauden sekä synnytyksen kautta.
