About this deal

This is elegant, aloof, something I imagine Angelina Jolie actually wearing (Mon Guerlain excluded), regal in a Queen Victoria mourning way. I don’t know what note is in this that makes my nose burn, but I was gravely disappointed, as it smells nice on paper.

I smelled this at my mom’s house today and thought it was the perfect bridge between the original Coco and Coco Mademoiselle, sort of like the missing link. If you want to get this and care a lot about performance, definitely get a pre 2015 version from a second hand seller. While CM is a continually top selling perfume in both the US and the UK you hear very little about Coco Noir despite it being on the market for ten years now. To my nose I get citrus, woods and patchouli with a beautiful airiness that makes me think of a classy woman dressed in a simple black dress or trousers, having a light lunch on a patio in a luxury restaurant on a warm summer day.

Liquor sweet as cotton candy is passed around the club to girls for rent by men who light their cigars with 10 franc notes.A: The base notes consist of frankincense, soft musk, vanilla, sandalwood, and Indonesian patchouli, offering a warm and magnetic finish to the scent. Coco Noir is not weird or avant-garde or ostentatiously niche--it's just a beautifully balanced woody amber floral. I used to feel more drawn to this, but with experience now I realize I like my fragrances with more character, especially if they cost quite a lot. She and the English man along with a few Coco fans cross the river on foot singing her song, this time not quite so fast or as loud. I thought Coco Noir might be a bit too patchouli-intensive for me, but after falling in love with the Oil Perfumery dupe version, I bit the bullet and bought a 50-ml bottle.

Now if you are somewhat drawn to Coco Mademoiselle but find her to shrill, sharp and rebellious then maybe this is worth a try. This is my go-to everyday Chanel scent, although I just opened a new bottle, and it's more powder-forward than I remembered from my first bottle. The green, peppery geranium and powdery rose are most evident, but otherwise it's difficult to pick out individual notes. This bright citrus burst gives me Coco Mademoiselle vibes, which I love since I can’t wear Coco Mad but adore the bright citrus top notes.Cut to the night of my birthday while laying in bed watching a movie he gives me this little gift and I unwrap it and find my beloved Coco Noir. My grandma wears the original Coco Chanel and I thought it might be a younger twist on that, but it's very masculine and sandalwood heavy. It has sweetness, it has woodyness, it has a green edge and a slightly spicy bite, but it doesn't veer off into one direction and remains contained.

However, it smells a bit common, and it does not compare to the thicker, older Chanel formulations (looking especially at the dark ones like Cuir de Russie and Coromandel) which were more plush, more complex, almost obscenely so. The patchouli does become more prominent in the very final phases of the scent so if you’re very sensitive to patchouli try a sample and let it fully dry down before making the decision, I’m usually turned off by patchouli but in this it doesn’t bother me at all.

Coco Noir is pretty and elegant and I wouldn't be upset to get a bottle as a gift, but this isn't a love for me.
